Claim files are full of numbers an AI tool shouldn’t see.
Coverage and property work runs on policy numbers, claim figures and the insured’s address. Candor helps your firm use AI on those files and keep a record of how it did.
Where AI goes wrong in this work
- A claim file pasted into a chatbot carries policy and account numbers, the property address, dollar figures and sometimes injury details, to a service the firm doesn’t control.
- Briefs in coverage disputes cite case law, and an AI-drafted brief can cite a case that does not exist. The largest U.S. AI-citation sanction on record is $110,204 in Couvrette v. Wisnovsky (D. Or. 2026).
- Malpractice carriers have begun asking firms at renewal how they use AI, and a firm needs an answer it can back up.
What Candor does about it
- Screening flags policy numbers, account numbers, addresses, dollar figures and medical terms before text goes to an AI tool, and hands back a redacted copy.
- Each AI use is logged to the claim’s matter: the tool, the task, who and when.
- Citations in an AI answer are looked up on CourtListener, and the ones that may need a second look are flagged before the attorney signs off.
- The carrier renewal packet answers the AI questions carriers ask, from the firm’s own record.
Screening and citation flags reduce risk; they don’t remove it. The attorney’s review is what counts, and Candor records it.
